…about our fully-equipped Cereal Innovation Centre and the ways in which our specialist process technologists use it to help customers with product and process development, not only at the beginning of a project but also throughout the life of the system..

about the flexibility that enables a full range of direct expanded, flaked and co-extruded breakfast cereals to be made on a single extrusion line with rapid changeover between them. Also, how additional units may be incorporated into the line to add traditionally cooked flakes or shredded cereals to the product portfolio.

…that hygienic operation is being made easier by machines that accumulate less debris and are easy and quick to clean thoroughly.

Our Innovation Centre...

The Innovation Centre is a dedicated product and process development facility staffed by a full-time team of expert process technologists. It is available to manufacturers needing to develop new products and processes, produce samples for test marketing or conduct feasibility trials without using valuable production plant time.

Companies from every part of the world find that thorough trials, often using their own ingredients, provide a reliable basis for trouble-free commissioning of new plant and the launch of new product lines. The wide variety of process technologies available under one roof enables us to cross conventional process boundaries, and to offer a variety of solutions for a single product.

A wide range of equipment is permanently available, and specialized units can be brought in - from other suppliers if necessary - to complete a process. Alternatively, customers are welcome to bring along their own technologies to integrate with our equipment.

In addition to cereal the Innovation Centre also houses facilities dedicated to the bakery, confectionery, and biscuit industries.

Baker Perkins Cereal Showcase

The Cereal Showcase 2018 is a rare opportunity to see first-hand a full extruded breakfast cereals production system as it nears completion in our Peterborough factory. There will also be a live demonstration in our Innovation Centre of an extruder with rapid colour change technology.

The production system includes:

•  SBX Master twin-screw extruder complete with dry ingredient feed system and face cutter

•  Pellet forming extruder with liquor feed and pellet conditioner

•  Flake Master flaking roll unit with vibratory infeed and belt discharge

•  Thermoglide2 Toaster

•  Syrup coating system including syrup cooking and product dryer/cooler

The showcase will mix classroom sessions with hands-on demonstrations and close-up inspections of every piece of equipment. Our team of experienced engineers and process technologists will explain how each unit contributes to high levels of quality and efficiency while keeping production costs low.

In addition to extruded cereals, Baker Perkins can supply systems for almost every type of breakfast cereal, including co-extruded, rotary steam cooked, shredded and baked granola. These processes will be covered during the showcase but if you have any specific questions please feel free to ask one of our specialists during the event or arrange a separate meeting afterwards.
