Baker Perkins Extrusion Showcase

In February 2018, Baker Perkins will be presenting a comprehensive review of our industrial and powder coating twin-screw extrusion technology at our Extrusion Showcase in Peterborough, UK.

The Showcase will mix classroom sessions with detailed inspections of several extruders currently in manufacture or ready for despatch, including our latest MP40, MP65 and MP80 models. There will be a full demonstration of our new Extrusion Innovation Centre, while Baker Perkins’ team of experienced engineers and process technologists will be on hand throughout the day to explain the technology and answer your questions.

Baker Perkins pioneered the introduction of twin-screw extruders, and has remained at the forefront of this technology for nearly 40 years. Our extruders are suitable for production of a wide range of industrial applications, including powder coatings, plastics, chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Every extruder is specifically designed for optimal performance; production capabilities extend from laboratory scale to over four tonnes per hour, with options extending from basic manual operation to a fully automated process line with centralised controls.

You will learn...

…how Baker Perkins' extruders are specifically designed to provide the optimum power needed for industrial applications such as powder coating. Having excess power on the extruder can have a severe detrimental effect to extruder wear, power consumption and increased costs at installation and during production.

…how high free volume geometry is a significant benefit built into all Baker Perkins MP twin-screw powder coating extruders. It is the outcome of specifying motors offering just the right amount of power for the application and the output required.

…about our latest developments including the MAX³ Feed System, a patent-pending innovation that can lead to a throughput increase of up to 30% on production extruders by addressing the restricted output and torque surges caused by material building up in the extruder feed port.

MPX24 Integra

A portable, fully integrated powder coating process system suitable for research and new product development, as well as tasks such as colour matching and small batch production. The MPX24 Integra will be fully demonstrated in our new Innovation Centre throughout the showcase.

MP Production Extruders

A comprehensive range of twin-screw extruders for small batch up to high-output continuous production. The extruders have been specifically engineered with features that help to maintain consistent quality while keeping running costs low.

MAX³ Feed System

A re-designed feed port improves the flow of material into the extruder barrel and the air out of it, to increase throughput and allow lightweight, low density materials and fines to be handled much more efficiently.

Our Innovation Centre...

Our new Industrial Extrusion Innovation Centre is now open, offering a dedicated resource for chemical, plastics, pharmaceutical, packaging and construction materials trials, alongside full powder coating production facilities and research and development services for a whole range of Industrial Extrusion applications.

It is available for customers looking to develop new products and processes, produce samples, or conduct feasibility trials. The Centre is particularly relevant for companies exploring a change from batch to continuous processing.

Located at Peterborough in the UK, the Innovation Centre offers use of a MPX24 Integra twin-screw extruder with feeder, chill roll and flaking unit. There are also grinding, curing and spraying facilities available, plus a full set of analytical instruments to check consistency and quality for characteristics including thickness, gloss and imperfections.

Customers from around the world can work with their own raw materials and are guaranteed complete confidentiality, working alongside Baker Perkins’ technologists to supply data to enable smooth, uncomplicated commissioning of new equipment or development of new products.

Programme...

Classroom sessions will be accompanied by visits to the factory floor for a detailed inspection of the equipment and practical demonstrations of the some of the major innovations. Our team of experienced extrusion engineers and process technologists will also be on hand throughout to discuss answer your questions.

[ Day 1 ]  Wednesday 7th February 2018 - 11.00am to 4.00pm

[ Day 2 ]  Thursday 8th February 2018 - 9.00am to 1.15pm

Each day will comprise three sessions covering the following topics:

[ 1 ]  Powder Coating Process - details of Baker Perkins' latest process and equipment developments includes dough temperature reduction and double moulding. Also a review by ingredient supplier TBC of the ways in which new ingredient technology can help bakers achieve clean labels and reduce costs.

[ 2 ]  Extruder Review - high-speed pressure-vacuum mixer completely redesigned to improve hygiene. Includes automatic wash-in-place system for the mixing bowl.

[ 3 ]  Innovation Centre - servo-control provides gentle handling and sustained weight accuracy. Includes demonstration of internal wash-down capability.

[ 4 ]  Facilities Tour - compact units that improve quality and consistency by conditioning and relaxing the dough pieces prior to final moulding.

[ 5 ]  Keynote Speaker- gently sheets, coils and moulds the dough pieces to achieve excellent crumb structure and shape of the finished loaf.

[ 6 ] Supplier Presentation(s) - practical examples of the way our range of parts, services, upgrades, rebuilds and training programmes can improve efficiency, lower production costs and extend equipment life.

The Bakery Innovation Centre enables plant bakers interested in developing their products and processes to evaluate different ways of achieving this.

Companies from every part of the world find that thorough trials, often using their own ingredients, provide a reliable basis for trouble-free commissioning of new plant and the launch of new product lines. The wide variety of process technologies available under one roof enables us to cross conventional process boundaries, and to offer a variety of process solutions for a single product.

A wide range of equipment is permanently available, and specialized units can be brought in - from other suppliers if necessary - to complete a process. Alternatively, customers are welcome to bring along their own technologies to integrate with our equipment.

In addition to Bakery the Innovation Centre also houses facilities dedicated to the Confectionery, Biscuit, Snack, and Breakfast Cereal industries.
